Maxis Communications Berhad has announced the upcoming launch of residential broadband services over its 3G network by using HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access) technology, a high-speed upgrade of the 3G network, for the rollout of large scale residential broadband services. It offers speeds that are 3 times faster than 3G and 20 times faster than traditional dial-up.
Maxis chief executive officer Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim said:
"Maxis is determined to become a major broadband player and we have already committed RM150mil to build up and launch this business. From a technology perspective, we see both HSDPA and WiMax as the key platforms for delivering affordable, reliable and mobile broadband services to our consumers".
Packages, pricing and coverage areas will be revealed at the formal launch of Maxis Broadband, which is scheduled on Sept26.
But the bad news for us in Ipoh is that:
Consumers in the Klang Valley and Penang will be the first to enjoy Maxis’ new broadband services.
Why is it when new products such as this are available in the market the cities that are chosen are always Kl and Penang? Isn't Ipoh a city too? Wei... we have money too you know.
I wonder how TM with its streamyx gonna deal with this competitor. I hope Maxis will give the best broadband available and don't be a bugger like Streamyx. MONOPOLY is BAD. Go Maxis. I hope this will be a wake up call for the larger than life people in TM.
